Situation Update:
The CVN-71 Carrier Group successfully defended an anti-ship attack by the Iranian Air Force at midnight on Day 14. The Fifth Fleet commander has now become more vigilant regarding the enemy's offensive moves. Apart from the air assault operation, the Iranian Army also conducted several major moves on the ground. Moscow has aided Tehran with 36 sets of SAMs consisting of SA-6 Gainful, SA-8 Gecko, SA-11 Gadfly, and SA-15 Gauntlet. These SAMs were transported to Kerman, then moved to the frontline and deployed around Sirjan and Jiroft regions. In the North Corridor, with height suppression from Genu Mountain, our allied ground forces, leading by the USMC 2nd Regiment, had pushed into Rezvan region. However, in the Faryab region, about 100km northeast from Bandar Abbas, the Iranians have sent a large reinforcement including self-propelled artilleries, armored vehicles, and battle tanks. Their objective is presumably taking back Minab City, a key conjuction that connects Bandar Abbas to Faryab and Jiroft. The Iranians had conducted a major counter-offensive attack on Day 14 in the Faryab region, pushing the frontline to the southwest. The USMC 6th Regiment 1st Battalion that stationed in the region has suffered significant loss, and decided to retreat from Dehbarez back to Kormon. During the retreat, two AV-8B Harriers were shot down by SAMs that newly deployed in the Faryab region. It was assessed that these Iranian air defenses have upgraded with Russia's latest early-warning radar datalink system with its command center in Jiroft Airbase, which posed a major threat to our air operations in the region. Therefore, neutralizing the Iranian air defense system in the Faryab region now became a priority for our allied forces. A good news is that Jiroft Runways were severely damaged on Day 13, and it needs several days to repair them. Therefore, most of aircraft in Jiroft Airbase was unable to takeoff. Meanwhile, the aircraft that takeoff from Kerman is a little too far to provide effective coverage to the frontline. Without Iranian Air Force's presence, DEAD operation difficulty is significantly reduced in the region. A pair of four-ship DEAD Flights were briefed and prepared by the CVN-71 Carrier Group to destroy those newly deployed SAMs. With engines spooling up on the deck, the navy aviators signaled "Good to go" with their thumbs up, yet everyone knows that any DEAD mission will be a dangerous mission as its name implies.
