Date - 08/14/2024 00:45:26
Take part as one of the Iranian F4Es that assaulted Soviet Forces who accidentally invaded Iran, originally intending to attack a Mujaheddin supply base. Utilize guns as happened in the real incident or use bombs. Be on quick alert and get over there as fast as possible! This is based off of the real life 1982, April 5th incident in which Iranian F4s destroyed multiple invading Soviet helicopters during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

This mission requires the F4E and Afghanistan map. Features 3 custom kneeboards as well as dialogue (although not voiced, just subtitles.).

Historical Context

During the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan the Soviets organized an attack on a Mujahideen supply base. This attack involved hundreds of soldiers and many Soviet Helicopters. During the flight to the supply base the flight ended up off course due to multiple factors, some being poor weather and misinterpreted parachute flares. This caused the Soviet forces to inadvertently cross the Iranian border and misinterpreted the Iranian Asphalt factory for the Mujahideen base. After the Soviets accidentally attacked the Iranian factory multiple Iranian F4s responded and attacked the Soviet forces, destroying multiple helicopters which was soon followed by Iranian ground forces moving towards the factory.

Situation

Radar reports have shown a large number of helicopters have just entered our airspace from Afghanistan just hours ago. This aerial force landed near an asphalt factory just west of the border. Just an hour ago reports were made of the factory being bombed by attack fighters followed by bombardment by the helicopter forces troops. We believe this to be an attack by the Soviets as they are the only plausible player to execute an operation of this magnitude. Although there is no discernible motive for the attack strategically. In response two pairs of F4s will be dispatched. One for visual confirmation of the Soviet targets and the other for a strike of the Soviet Forces. A pair of F14As will also be dispatched to protect from probable Soviet retaliation and provide air superiority.

Objective
A quick alert strike has been placed on a suspected soviet assault on an asphalt factory just west of our border with Afghanistan. Reports place a large assault force attacking the factory. You will fly a two ship loaded with 4 Mk82 bombs and guns to attack these ground forces. Callsign Simorgh. Another F4 two ship, callsign Shekan, will take off before you and confirm the suspected forces of being Soviets. Until that confirmation has been made ROE is weapons hold. You will be covered by Arash, consisting of two F14As loaded with Phoenix missiles in case of Soviet retaliation.

Because of the quick alert nature of this flight we have not been able to make a full flight plan, requiring you to make on the go fuel calculations. Waypoint 2 is your ingress point and Waypoint 3 is the factories coordinates. Once you are out of Shindands airspace you are to turn your transponder off. When returning to base we will be flying behind Shekan Flight. Do not cross the Iranian Afghanistan border or you risk Soviet Aggression.

Creator Notes

While I originally intended to have voice lines I figured it wouldn't sound right to have English dialogue with an American accent for Iranian dialogue. In the real life incident the F4s used guns to attack the Soviets (from what I have gathered) although I have added bombs onto the loadout because they are more fun. You can unequip these bombs to replicate the real life version more closely. I have also created custom borders via the draw tool because Iran is not fully modeled in the Afghanistan map.

Because I am the only playtester I cannot catch all potential problems, if you encounter any issues please comment them below so I can fix them. Thanks.
