Map - Marianas
Objective: - Capture enemy heliports and seize Rota Island by off-loading troops near defended helipads. Once a helipad is captured by the troops, you need to resupply it with weapons and/or defense to prevent it from being overrun by the enemy.

Skills: - Precision landing and takeoffs at slightly over max-takeoff weight or as very overloaded max-takeoff weight aircraft.

Options: - Multiplayer or single player.  This mission is designed to be played with persistence on. However, persistence is not required

Plays Best on Mi-8MTV2, Can also be played on Mi-24P, UH-1H, OH-58D,

Marianas Map Required

-- How To Play:

Spawn your helicopter on the HMS Invincible, helipad, or gas platform, then use the "F10 Other > MissionMenu" to either load troops, defenses, weapons (artillery) or an complete FARP (defenses, weapons and fuel) onto your aircraft

If you are carrying troops, find a suitable place to land near the enemy helipad and unload your troops with the "F10 Other > MissionMenu >Unload Aircraft" menu item.

Unload the troops within a kilometer of an enemy helipad and they will advance toward and attempt to capture the helipad.  This mission does not use either the built in DCS troop loading nor cargo functions.

When loading and unloading supplies at a captured helipad you need to be within a 100 meter radius of a helipad.  This loading/unloading circle is drawn on the map in light red once players are near the helipad.

You have to hold your aircraft on the ground until the supplies or troops are loaded or unloaded.

You cannot load from the gas platform without first landing and unloading an "Overloaded" helicopter on it.

Jettison cargo with the menu command  "F10 Other > MissionMenu > Cargo Hold > Jettison Cargo".

-- Notes:

Supply levels at heliports are indicated by visual clues at the helipad. There is also a F10 menu item "intelligence report" which outputs supply levels.

Only the HMS Invincible and gas platform have unlimited supplies.  All other warehouses requires you to first transfer supplies to them.

You can move supplies between warehouses. The airport warehouses have a green circle on the map indicating their unloading/loading perimeter.

To help with low level flying, NDB frequencies are printed on the map to help you navigate towards helipads.

– Customization:

You can change the difficulty ONLY at the mission editing level.  The number of defenders at helipads increases between difficulty level 2 and level 5. If you set a difficulty level of 1, the defenders will not return fire.

The objective is to keep threatened helipads supplied until the island is seized. How you do that is up to you and what aircraft you want to add at the mission editor.

– Persistence:

Reset the mission by first quitting the mission, then deleting the files "Saved Games/DCS/Missions/marianas_overload_w.lua" and "marianas_overload_u.lua".  If using Open Beta it will be in "DCS.openBeta" path. Then restart the mission.

If you change the difficulty in persistence you need to also delete the two persistence files "marianas_overload_w.lua" and "marianas_overload_u.lua" as outlined above

If you quit the mission while your troops are attempting to capture a helipad, their position will not be saved. Don't orphan your troops.

Persistence is only saved when you quit the mission.  Due to the performance hit saving all the warehouses does if done while flying.

–Developers Notes:

I wrote this mission because I wanted to overload helicopters to the point wh ere they could only in ground effect hover. So taking off and landing an extremely overloaded aircraft is supposed to be hard.

When flying downwind and overloaded keep your airspeed up. Visual indicators are available to help judge wind direction.

If you add the The CH-47F it will not maintain altitude when flying with the wind and overloaded. If you turn the wind off in mission editor, it’s easier to fly CH-47F.

I have tested this mission single player, limited in testing multiplayer so bugs might exist.  Any feedback on problems or general comments is greatly appreciated.
