This is Part 2 of the "Al Taqaddum through the ages" 3 part series, the night version. A daytime version can be found at https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3342743/
Fifty years after the RAF had defended RAF Habbaniya, what would become modern-day Al Taqqadum Air Base, they returned. This time, it was to attack the very base they fought for. Running at low-level, RAF Tornado GR1s denied the two runways at Al Taqqadum, surrounded by SAMs and AAA fire.
You'll re-enact this mission, using a fictional RAF F-15 to simulate the Tornado. You'll approach a AAA-lit Al Taqqadum, deny its two runways, and engage a pair of Interceptors.
This is part 2 of the "Al Taqqadum through-the-ages series" by Evangelic, the night version. There is a daytime version of this mission at https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3342743/.
Half a century afther the British had fiercely defended RAF Habbaniya (what is today modern day Al Taqqadum) against German, Italian, and Iraqi aggressors, the British would return to that very base, but to fly against it and to deny its runway on the opening night of Desert Storm.
Since 1941, the Habbaniya had been expanded, and was alleged to have housed chemical weapons, ground forces, and a much much larger airfield in the form of Al-Taquddum.
The airbase was targeted repeatedly by Iran during the Iraq-Iran conflict. It was also targeted on the first night of Desert Storm. RAF Tornado GR1s conducted a highly dangerous, low-level attack against its runway - dodging AAA and flying without night-vision. Flown as a 4-ship, 2 aircraft carried ALARM anti-radiation missiles while the others carried conventional weapons as well as mines (to prevent runway repair). In anticipation of the Tornado module, you'll be flying an F15 to simulate it.
## This Mission ##
You will deny the use of Al Taqqadum's two runways, and destroy any interceptors in the area.
You will spawn into the mission about 30 miles from the target, on the wing of Red Lead again. In a nod to Part 1 of this series, you previous Flight Leader will appear beside you before saluting you and flying away.
You will follow your flight towards the target. Red lead will destroy the SA-2 based at Al-Taquddum - allowing you to commence your run against its runway (marked by SP2).
You will utilise BLU-107, Mantra Durandal, anti-runway bomb as well as a cluster bomb to simulate anti-personnel mines (which would delay runway repairs).
If you overfly the runway at over 1'000ft, additional SAM sites will engage you.
Your mission will end once you are Winchester and have destroyed any Iraqi interceptors.
