Su-25s figured prominently in Soviet operations in Afghanistan, but 23 were shot down by various anti-aircraft weapons used by the Mujahadeen and a similar number were non-operational losses. An Su-25 shot down near Kabul in January 1989 was the last Soviet aircraft loss before they withdrew from Afghanistan.

Your brethren are already situated in the mountains east of Big Bend, awaiting a pair of SU25s returning from a mission near Jalalabad.  Their location required a long and arduous hike into a launch position capable of intercepting their targets with FIM-82s, you’ll assist in their evacuation to Gwan before Soviet recon arrives to scan the area.  Your Hind is currently stationed in the Panjshir Valley on the other side of the plateau, Bagram Airbase and it’s SAM defences stand between you and your destination, to make matters worse, you’ll need to thread the needle between pairs of Mi-24s that patrol the area as they change shift.  Flying at tree level will not be low enough, in order to reach your destination you’ll be forced to follow, the river.

When on the plateau fly no higher than 30ft agl whenever possible, higher than 100ft agl will trigger the early deployment of a second pair of Mi-24s.  Once you enter the mountains you’ll need to stay below 5000ft or you’ll become the prey of a pair of Su-27s.  The embarkation zone is tiny but you’ll be greeted by a red flare once you approach the valley at “Big Bend”, a red flag marks your ideal landing spot.  Once your passengers have embarked, continue along the river until you come to another large bend and make your way out of the mountains flying ENE until you reach the valley, then fly to your destination in Gwan and disembark your passengers to complete the mission.
