The Soviet government is outraged by the loss of control in the Georgian Republic and directly blames TF Challenger for interfering in a domestic affair within the Soviet Union. The Premier is also furious with his cabinet and Flag Officers for failing to quell the greater threat posed by the two forces in Georgia. As a knee-jerk response, he has ordered the Black Sea Fleet to begin hunting the carrier group before it reaches the entrance to the Sea of Marmara, in Turkey.

Join your well-known wingman once again to fight off Soviet air, land, and sea forces in a race against time during one of the harshest winters ever recorded in the Caucasus region. It’s a battle for survival and a desperate push toward safety in NATO territory. Reinforcements are not yet guaranteed, and the aftermath of the last campaign has severely set the CAG back—especially in terms of supplies and wounded personnel.

In this brand-new campaign, in six missions, you’ll face more realistic challenges, including night operations, harsh weather, mechanical and avionic failures, and coordination with Combat Air Patrols for timely interceptions. For history enthusiasts, players can scout and engage authentic Soviet naval ships—complete with historically accurate names and hull numbers—as well as period-accurate aircraft from regional squadrons operating in 1989.

Air-to-air missions are highly dynamic. Soviet and U.S. military training doctrines from the late 1980s were carefully researched and implemented to shape reaction times and skill levels. This creates a sense of tension after striking deep behind enemy lines—where survival depends on timing and the hope of reaching friendly intercept zones.

Air-to-ground missions offer an adrenaline-fueled experience, especially if targets are neutralized at key moments before enemy bomber groups arrive to disable taxiways and runways. Naval strike missions are also featured, including one that tasks players with using AGM-84D Harpoon missiles against Soviet vessels—while avoiding civilian shipping in the area of operations.

The campaign presents authentic challenges: only weapons systems that were in service in the late 1980s are available. That means no HMDs, no GPS-guided munitions. Pilots must stay alert for unexpected MANPAD emplacements after breaking through Soviet air defense radar coverage.

A special mission using the Combined Arms Pack allows players to actively defend an airbase—repelling incoming aircraft and eliminating VIP helicopters attempting to escape capture by Georgian nationalist forces. Make every shot count, and protect American bombers from Soviet ordnance at all costs.

Fratricide or civilian targeting will result in automatic mission failure. This campaign enforces strict rules of engagement to reflect the realities of Cold War-era warfare.
