Nomad Troop, 4th Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment (4/2 ACR), served as a forward reconnaissance element during Operation Desert Storm. As part of VII Corps' spearhead, the unit conducted aggressive scouting and screening missions, helping to locate and engage Iraqi forces. Their actions were crucial during the Battle of 73 Easting, where 2nd ACR decisively defeated elements of the Iraqi Republican Guard with superior maneuver and firepower.

The "Sand Shark" was an AH-64 Apache attack helicopter assigned to Nomad Troop, 4th Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment during the Gulf War. Painted with distinctive nose art, it flew armed reconnaissance and close air support missions during Operation Desert Storm. The Sand Shark provided overwatch for ground scouts, engaged enemy armor, and contributed to the success at 73 Easting, exemplifying the Apache's agility and precision in desert combat.
