Owing to the large amount of Wildfires that routinely burn across Califia’s more forested regions, in 1974 an unconventional unit was proposed. While fully capable of accomplishing the same tasks of any other Airlift squadron, the 144th ‘Raging Rams’ became well known for their use of the C-130 and its Modular Airborne FireFighting System (MAFFS). Even going as far to paint one of their aircraft ‘Fire Eater’ in bright Red-and-white fire-bomber markings, the Rams would become a critical resource almost immediately with the 1976 Los Palmas fire that had overwhelmed local resources.
Today, the Rams are one of the most multi-faceted C-130 squadrons within the Osean Air Defense Force, deploying overseas in Combat Operations, assisting in Humanitarian Efforts at home and abroad, as well as still being a critical piece of Califia’s fire fighting network.
