Operation STRIKE OF THE SWORD or Operation KHANJAR was a US-led 2009 offensive in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan.
About 4,000 Marines fr om the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade as well as 650 Afghan troops were involved, supported by NATO planes.
The operation began when units moved into the Helmand River valley in the early hours of July 2, 2009. This operation was the largest Marine offensive since the Battle of Fallujah in 2004.. The operation was also the biggest offensive airlift by the Marines since the Vietnam War.
Key targets of the assault include the districts of Garmsir and Nawa which are towards the southern border with Pakistan, wh ere many of the insurgents are said to take refuge, and are involved in the opium trade funding the Taliban.

SPUR 2-1 Kiowa --- To escort Chinooks from Camp Bastion to LZ DELTA & provide CAS
PONTIAC 1-1 & 2-1 --- CH47F Chinooks to transport supporting infantry from Camp Bastion to LZ DELTA & extract after mission complete.
FORD FLIGHT AH64 Apaches --- To escort Chinooks from Camp Bastion to LZ DELTA & provide CAS in the AO.
Note: Chinooks will be undertaking multiple logistics tasks en-route to LZ Delta. Pilots need to be proficient in the "precipice" landing technique.

Patrol Base Wishtan from Circa 2008/09. South West of the main FOB in Sangin further west on pharmacy road than PB Tangiers. It was built inside an Afghani compound but I have had to build my own as its missing from the map.

[Update: 08/05/24] Hi folks, I'm stepping away from DCS for a while so I won't be updating these for some time. By all means feel free to update, edit and reupload however you like.
A pretty heavy single player open sandbox training mission on the SW Afghanistan map. There are no threats.
8 Ranges to choose from to practice air to ground against Static trucks, tanks, cars, anti-radar, air to air. Details of which can be found in the included kneeboard (see screenshots)
Ambient around the airspace so it doesnt feel so lifeless and empty. (Don't engage the A10's targets as they're set to invincible)
Airfield populated with Statics and ambient units.
Smoke on targets and Air to Air "drones" available via the Radio menu
There are 3 mission files included. Case I, Case III and Night. Each mission contains Hot and Cold spawns for most modules or if you run the mission in multiplayer / local server dynamic spawns are enabled.

This is a simple template of some of the NATO installations in the south of Afghanistan. It's a WIP and more bases will be added, or you can continue the build yourself. I have used location data from Wikipedia so accuracy may not be perfect.
