Mirage F1AZ as seen in the mid 1990s on the airshow circuit in South Africa. Corrected roughmets.

The Mirage F1AZ was ordered by the SAAF to replace its Mirage 3 fleet. The AZ was specifically developed for the SAAF, with what was at the time, a sophisticated doppler navigation system for low level strike sorties.

The F1AZs were used extensively during the Border War conflict, with good results. 2 aircraft were lost on combat missions, and the F1AZ served in the SAAF as a frontline fighter for 22 years.

Represented here is the F1AZ, which was very popular on the airshow circuit in its original camouflage with updated insignia from the post 1994 South African Air Force.
