## Testing Completed ## A part-real, part-fictional re-enactment of Day 1 of Operation Eastern Resolve 2, a joint US Marine Corps and Afghan National Army effort to increase influence and presence in the district of Now Zad. This mission follows the assault on the town of Dohaneh in the south of the district. The operation was one of the first, and one of the most kinetic, following the USMC s"surge" in Helmand Province earlier that year.

At 0900hrs 12 Aug 09, a small USMC force secured a foothold in the north of the town and began constructing a temporary patrol base, from which it was hoped that they (and the ANA) could perform regular patrols. Almost immediately, they came under heavy attack from Taliban militas in the area - to include indirect fire directed from the mountainous regions around the town.

A Quick Reaction force from Now Zad is on its way. Your AH64/CH47 package will insert ANA troops in to the mountains. Meanwhile your fixed-wing package will provide CAS.

## The Mission ##
A USMC CH53, callsign CHEVY, will approach the town of Dahaneh fr om the south and insert USMC troops to the southwest of the town. These troops will move north through the town, while USMC IFVs pincer the enemy from the temporary patrol base to the north. They are expecting fierce fighting, as the valley represents a key logistics node for the Taliban.

Meanwhile a British Chinook and Apache escort, callsign DODGE, will depart Bastion and fly a similar flight path to the AO. Hugging the mountains, it will  insert ANA Special Forces in-between the mountains at SP5 (they will spawn when you land). They'll be met by a local militia under the command of Helmand Police Chief, Abdul Rahman Jan [who in all reality was attempting to secure this are for his own interests, probably to secure his narcotics network here]. You are to stay on station nearby and await tasking if required (MEDEVAC). You will then egress to the south and RTB.

Callsign ENFIELD - a US drone - is on station at Orbit Area 2T offering updates on movement on the ground.

At Kandahar, callsign PONTIAC will fly out and station itself on Orbit Area 2, and await instructions. Once the rotary flights are in position, MISER will instruct you to continue with your mission by proceeding to SP2 wh ere you'll be handed over to ENFIELD for instructions. You'll stay on station for as long as you can, supporting ground forces, before egressing and RTB.

Callsign BONE, a jet currently on RTB, is also being re-tasked to deliver a show-of-force over the town to hopefully discourage Taliban fighters.

## A note on ROE ##
ROE: As part of a wider USMC effort to exert influence in the region, coaltion forces are being encouraged to avoid kinetic use of force if possible. Callsign PONTIAC is likely to be asked to demonstrate a "show of force" before using its munitions - a low level pass over the target area using flares. If this is requested of you, you must fly low and DIRECTLY above the target.

At this point in time, British and Americans operated on two different ROEs. British forces required positive ID before engaging. Should you want to play realistically, you could attempt to simulate this if you are playing as callsign DODGE.

To simulate accurate RPG fire, two insurgents have been equipped with Stingers with a 5% range. Stingers were not used by the Taliban during this operation, and most militias with this type of equipment had already aligned themselves to the coalition - but in the absence of accurate AI, low-accuracy Stingers is the best I can simulate.

## Mission Success ##
Successful completion of this mission is contingent on the MEDEVAC of USMC casualties.
