Mission 3 of A Standoff in the Strait of Hormuz

N'importe quelle version

This is the third mission of my upcoming campaign, and I appreciate any comments re: bugs/issues. It is advised that you play the first two missions before this to understand the campaign's structure.

In the last 48 hours Tehran has been responding to an Israeli aerial bombardment. With few military or diplomatic options to resist Israeli aggression, Iran is desperate to coerce the international community to respond to its plight. To do this, it intends on raising oil prices.

In the last mission, you rescued the crew of the Blue Orion oil tanker and the US Navy bombarded Iranian Naval positions, all but destroying its ability to intercept ships in the Strait. More desperate than ever, Iran has resorted to missile attacks against commercial interests in the UAE and Taskforce Sentinel assets at US bases nearby. You will join a flight of F-16s or F-18s to destroy two prominent missile sites deep in Iran. You will face a decision midway through the mission that dictates the storyline.

## Background ##
After the Blue Orion incident which incited international condemnation, the US-led Taskforce has delivered 24 hours of aerial and Tomahawk Missile attacks against Iranian naval positions in the Strait of Hormuz. This has more-or-less neutralised credible threats against shipping lanes and has significantly degraded their nearby SAM coverage.

Elsewhere, further Israeli attacks against Tehran has also meant that many of Iran's fighter assets have been relocated further north to defend the capital.

Left with very few options, and even more desperate to put pressure on the international community to broker peace on their behalf, Iran has resorted to missile attacks against oil and corporate interests in the Strait. Their aim continues to be to raise oil prices and force the international community to respond. Over the past 4 hours, missiles have struck at ports, Taskforce Sentinel positions, oil platforms, and UAE districts.

However, in using their missile arsenal Iran has unwittingly revealed their positions. The sites are mobile, and can be moved within half an hour. Taskforce Sentinel is to react quickly, and destroy the two missile sites closest to the Strait.

## The Mission ##
You will conduct an attack on one of two missile sites near the Strait of Hormuz. These sites are marked as Alpha (West) and Bravo (East) on your map. They are at Steer Point 3.

Flying from Minhad Airbase near Dubai, and rallying at Steer Point 1, a US F-16 package will attack Alpha. A Kuwaiti F-18 package will attack Bravo. Targets are marked as Steer Point 3. The mission will be self-escorting.

You will fly as the third jet in one of the two packages.

SAM activity is thought to be degraded, though mobile and short-range SAMs are still a distinct possibility. There are no known fighter assets any longer at Bandar Abbas, but aerial photos show Kerman, Lar, and Shiraz Air Bases are still active.

A tanker racetrack is available on the egress. A RAF E3D remains on station.

A CSAR unit will orbit below radar detection 40 miles south of the Iranian coastline near Bandar Lengeh.

## ROE and Further Notes ##
You are cleared hot on all bandits.
