This is a pack of 19 missions, heavily inspired by but not directly copied from the Microprose flight simulator "Fleet Defender". Included are nine assorted F-14A Tomcat missions. Some of these missions have alternative options, for example to play with or without the VSN A-6A mod, or to start in the air instead of on the deck. Some, but not all, of the missions are slightly random, typically different enemy aircraft. For example, Mission 09 will assign two of six possible encounters.  You are allowed to freely modify or fix these as your heart desires but please don't redistribute them under the same name! Requires F-14, Kola, Supercarrier.  This download will patch the Part 1 missions to have the carrier group start at speed rather than static.

This is a pack of 19 missions (not counting alternate variations or bonus missions), heavily inspired by but not directly copied from the Microprose flight simulator "Fleet Defender".  Included are 19 assorted F-14A Tomcat missions.  Some of these missions have alternative options, for example to play with or without the VSN A-6A mod, or to start in the air instead of on the deck.

Some, but not all, of the missions are slightly random, typically different enemy aircraft.
For example, Mission 09 will assign two of six possible encounters.

There are several "Bonus Missions" included.  For example:
01B is a remake of the first mission, flown as a Norwegian F-5 pilot rather than a US Navy Tomcat pilot.
02B allows you to fly the TARPS jet rather than escort it.
05B puts you in the cockpit of a Finnish MiG-21Bis on neutrality patrol.
Mission 13 has two bonus missions, allowing you to fly as a Norwegian F-5 pilot or to join Swedish JA-37s in intercepting Soviet border violators.
There was almost a Mission 20, which I wound up scrapping, but the related Bonus mission of flying a lone F-5 to escape the Soviets remains.

Please note that I don't consider myself a great mission maker.  I'm still learning as I go.
You are allowed to freely modify or fix these as your heart desires but please don't redistribute them under the same name!
If, however, you get in the air, set your throttles just under MIL power, and fly the waypoints (or stay close to the aircraft you're escorting!) things should play out as intended.

Requires F-14, Kola, Supercarrier.

INTRODUCTION:
I consider myself to be a quite poor mission builder.  These missions will not emphasize correct procedures for departures or landings, although I have done my best to try to accommodate the desire for realistic approach and landing procedures for those of you who are interested.  The departures are, intentionally, quite simple.  After takeoff, follow your waypoints or any instructions you'll get from Jester, delivered in the form of text messages scripted into the mission, and everything should go just fine for you.  All of the missions are such that you can reach the "Mission Complete" message without air to air refueling.  Some give you less wiggle room than others.  Expect most of these to be fairly straightforward missions...Take off, fly the waypoints, shoot some Soviet aircraft in the face, landing is usually optional.  Later missions in the pack may feature a little air to ground work.

The inspiration for this mission pack, as you probably already know is the Microprose F-14 simulator, "Fleet Defender", released way back in 1994.  When the game released, it featured a series of three campaigns taking place along the "North Cape", a map covering a VERY similar location to the current DCS Kola map, and three campaigns located in the Mediterranian, inspired by the various incidents involving 'USA vs Libya'.  Ever since the release of the F-14 module, I've been thinking back to the Fleet Defender days and hoping for a full redux to bring that classic old sim back to life.  This mission pack is my attempt at doing that, and I am planning to eventually continue with the other two campaigns from this area.

THE SITUATION:
"Fighting Withdrawal" was one of six campaigns that shipped with Fleet Defender, and is the inspiration for this mission pack.  The background story for the campaign is that your carrier group, built around the USS Nimitz, is caught by surprise by the sudden outbreak of World War Three.  When war broke out, your ship was up at the tip of the North Cape, close to the Kola peninsula, and close to the Soviet bomber and submarine bases located there.  Your carrier group must now fight it's way out of danger as Soviet forces storm down Norway seizing airbase after airbase.  Sweden and Finland remain neutral so far, they were permanently neutral in the FD campaigns, but I might change that a little in mine later.

REQUIRED:
1. Heatblur F-14 Module.
2. Kola Map.
3. Supercarrier.

OPTIONAL:
1. MiG-21Bis Module.
2. F-5E-3 Module.
3. AJS-37 Module
(These aircraft are flown in only 1 or 2 missions each.)

CUSTOM SKINS / PAINTSCHEMES:
Please obtain the following skins and install them in your F-14A folder.
The instructions in the missions request that you also install them in your F-14B folder, but you may omit that step for now,
those instructions aren't accurate and I haven't had time to update them yet.
The specific skins required in the F-14B folder will be discussed later in a future mission pack.

Missions will be done using the Supercarrier module.
We'll have to pretend that the ship in question is the USS Nimitz until someone makes a CVN-68 skin for it...

Fictional YAK-38 skin by FlyNex for the AV-8B, please download and install this as well.
The AV-8B will appear loaded with Soviet missiles via a loadout edit.
You should not need to alter any files on your PC other than installing this skin,
but the AV-8 should still appear armed with Soviet R-60 AAMs.

TU-16 Badger Skin required for missions with the H-6 standing in as a TU-16:

If you wish to fly the missions using the A-6 Intruder, please obtain and install the VSN A-6A mod.
The links are available on the VSN Discord server to their A-6A mod.
Please install the VA-165 skinpack from Firehawk7171, you will need only the LoVis skins from 500,502,505, and 506:

If you do not wish to be bothered with the VSN A-6A mod, there are alternatives using the stock AI F/A-18C as a replacement.
The A-6A will be armed with A-6E weapons through the use of altered loadout files.  They should appear in your game armed with the Walleye guided bomb, AGM-88 HARM, and AGM-65 Maverick without you having to alter your game files.

Please note that some altered loadouts will be used for the MiG-23.  You should not need to alter any files on your end.
The MiG-23 will appear with R-13M1 and R-13M missiles in place of the stock R-60s on some missions to represent older models still in service.
Similarly, the AV-8B will appear with R-60M's to imitate a YaK-38 when we get into Part 2 of the mission pack.

Thanks for reading.  Good luck and happy hunting I guess, and hope you're able to enjoy this little mission pack.
