Mission briefing: Operation "Typhoon Fury"

Location: Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands

Situation:
US Marines and Army troops are fighting hard in the Mariana Islands. Japan still controls the northern part of Saipan, including a strategic airfield. The airfield is not operational but acts as the primary base for Japanese forces on Saipan. The enemy has established an artillery battery that is continuously shelling our positions and hindering our advance. Japanese air forces in the area are assessed to be weak but cannot be completely ruled out.



Objective
Main goal:
Locate and destroy the Japanese artillery batteries shelling the American positions.
Neutralize the units operating around the Japanese airfield on northern Saipan.
Secondary goal:
Maintain air dominance over Saipan to protect our ground forces and strike packages.

US Air Forces: Task Force 58 Aviation Detachment
Your forces consist of the 1st Marine Aviation Wing and US Army Air Force units, augmented
by British contributions.
