F-16 History<br /><br /><br /><br />
The 55th FS started receiving the first F-16s in 1997. During July of 1996 the 55th FS slowly began moving out its A-10s to Pope AFB. Shortly after all the A-10s were gone the squadron stood down and began the process of transitioning to the F-16C/D block 50. In July of 1997 the 55th FS became operational with the F-16 making Shaw strictly an F-16 base. With all squadrons fling the block 50 the 20th FW became a dedicated Wild Weasel operator. A USAF record was set when the squadron stood up combat ready in only 60 days.<br /><br /><br /><br />

For the Wild Weasel mission the aircraft were equipped with the HARM Targeting System (HTS) and the AGM-88 HARM missile. With the development of more advanced targeting pods it became possible to deploy these airframes in the so-called Destruction of Enemy Air Defense (DEAD) mission. This improves the output of each mission dramatically with the aircraft being able to detect and destroy radar systems and also being able to destroy other dedicated targets.

A randomized mission with a choice between 3 missions. Select the one you prefer via the F10 radio menu after spawning at the base, then re-arm your plane if necessary.
MIG SWEEP: Fly North to the patrol area and knock out any MIGs that show up. Wizard will report any radar contacts on AM 258.
WILD WEASEL: Fly North to the patrol area and destroy any SAM sites that go online. Make sure you choose an adequate armament for this kind of mission.

Relics of a bygone era, the 582nd ‘Star Killers’ are the last vestiges of both an antiquated Mission and aircraft. Dating back to the war in Clavis, Osea's ‘Wild Weasel III’ program saw use of the F-4C in the SAM Hunting role to inconsistent success. With knowledge learned sent towards the up and coming Wild Weasel IV, better known as the purpose built F-4G. However due to logistics and training bottlenecks, the OADF required a more advanced SEAD Aircraft to take the role. The F-4CJ, with more advanced avionics and a larger engine was quickly rolled out as a stop gap.
Following the war, most Wild Weasel squadrons transferred their CJs into Air National Guard service, with the exception of the Star Killers. The Syrians have moved an SA-2 site closer to our border during the night. HQ wants this site to be leveled before it becomes fully operational.
Your task is to destroy the SA-2 site on the eastern side of Jasim, about 10 Nm from the border. As far as we know the Syrians have not yet been able to turn the system on, so this will be a good opportunity to destroy the SAM before it becomes a threat.
