On September 11, 1972 VMFA-333, the Fighting Shamrocks aboard USS America launched a MigCAP which was to patrol over the Haiphong area. A/C 201 and A/C 206 engaged Mig-21’s and shot down one confirmed and claimed one probable. While egressing the area short of fuel, both Phantoms were damaged by AAA and SAM fire. They were able to reach the coast before the crews ejected and were recovered by SAR.
This was the only confirmed All-Marine MiG kill during the Vietnam War.

VF-33 was originally known as the Tarsiers, then the Astronauts for a short time, then Tarsiers again, and the squadron ended its life as the Starfighters. They flew a diverse range of aircraft, from the F4U Corsair to the F-14A Tomcat. The squadron was disestablished in 1993
Prior to the F-14 and during the Vietnam War, their aircraft was the F-4 Phantom, and their 1972 scheme is probably my favorite ever applied to the F-4.

A quick intercept mission I've created to test out VSN's new F-4 Phantom mod.
In this you'll be tasked to take off and shoot down an enemy Mig-19.
This is my first Mission so please don't expect anything too great now, but if you run into any problems please say.

In May 1963, VF-14 Tophatters squadron transitioned to the F-4B Phantom II and on 23 January 1964 they became the first Phantom squadron to operate on board Franklin D. Roosevelt. In June 1966, after moving to NAS Oceana, the squadron deployed to the South China Sea to conduct air strikes and support missions against military targets in North Vietnam. During this combat deployment, the squadron flew 1,688 hours on 967 combat sorties and delivered 651,624 pounds of ordnance, in addition to flying its traditional combat air patrol and fighter escort missions.

You lead a flight of four US Navy F-4Bs on a mission to protect a large formation of B-52s. You are joined by a flight of four USAF F-5Es. The enemy consists of eight MiG-21s and eight MiG-19s. If you survive, you must lead your flight back to the carrier. Good luck!
