Under Gaddafi, Libya's air force grew to include Soviet fighters including the Su-22 and MiG-23 (both of which met their ends at the hands of F-14s), as well as the MiG-25 "Foxbat" interceptor. Although far from agile, the -25's raw speed made it somewhat of a slippery target. Two were almost downed by Tomcats from VF-33 "Starfighters" in 1986, although an order to hold fire -even though they met RoE- meant that the Foxbats lived to fight another day.
