F-16C Viper
As one of the few Emmerian Air Force units permanently stationed on the Khesed Island, the 120th Fighter Intercept Squadron plays a critical role in the defense of Emmeria’s western coast. While most of their air taskings are interceptions of suspicious air traffic along the Strait, they do stand as an alert squadron to counter any potential hostile force that approaches the nations air space.
Since the mid 1980’s, the squadron has flown and mastered the specially modified F-16 Air Defense Fighters, though with the airframes continuing to build up hours and age related fatigue, the National Guard Bureau has slowly begun phasing the Vipers out for the newer produced Mirage 2000 interceptor fighters. However, budgetary concerns have limited the amount of aircraft provided, as well as the more advanced Super 350 BVR missile to the squadron, leaving them with AIM-7 Sparrows of questionable reliability flown on aircraft with service careers rivaling some of Emmeria’s senior most officers.
